Released in March 2022 by Blueprint Gaming, the Chilli Picante Megaways™ video slot’s theme is basically a Mexican fiesta in the middle of the Central American desert, with the symbols including calaveras, mariachi, tequila bottles, and plenty of chillies.
If the theme sounds familiar, it’s because it’s one that’s been used and recycled by plenty of other developers. In fact, that’s one of the biggest problems with this game: it offers very little in the way of new and exciting elements, be it graphics, themes, or indeed features – though it must be said that the soundtrack is bang on!
Nevertheless, we’re sure some people will enjoy the simple paytable and decent bonuses, that include free spins, multipliers, and a Chilli Hot Cashpot that can give you up to 1,000x your stake in the base game.

Chilli Hot Cashpot

What this shows is the sum you could win if you managed to land three to nine Ghost Chilli symbols on the reels at the same time. The sum is calculated as 1x, 5x, 10x, 40x, 100x, 250x, and 1,000x your stake, depending on how many such symbols you land.
Flaming Hot Free Spins

The Mariachi Player Wild & More Free Spins
The Wild symbol is only available in the Free Spins feature and comes with two functions:
- When two or more Flaming Red or Ghost Chillies and a Wild land on the grid at the same time, the Mariachi Wild will collect the Red and Ghost’s value. If you manage to land more than two Mariachi Wilds in such an occasion, the value of the Red and Ghosts will be collected twice or more.

- Landing a Mariachi Wild also adds a little ‘stamp’ to the collection just above the Free Spins grid. Every four Mariachi you land in a single session will result in 10 extra free spins with a multiplier that goes from x2 to x3, and then x5. These multipliers are used by the Mariachi Wilds to multiply how much you win when they collect the amount from the Red and Ghost Chillies.

Theme, Slot Design & User Experience
The game is set in a dusty rural village located somewhere in Mexico, possibly the Chihuahuan desert. The setting is just as you’d expect it, with swaying cacti, bundles of chillies hanging from wooden beams, and strewn sombreros.
This theme permeates every element of the game, from the pretty and colourful symbols, down to the awesome soundtrack that changes according to whatever is happening: we particularly love it when, after landing two Golden Chillies, the famous El Jarabe Tapatio plays as the final reel spins.
Having said that, it’s hard not to point out the obvious, which is that the Chilli Picante Megaways™ slot feels a lot like many other games by other developers. We’re thinking Extra Chilli Megaways™ by Big Time Gaming and Chilli Heat Megaways™ by Pragmatic Play, among others. Even the Chilli Hot Cashpot feature is something we’ve seen before in the likes of the 9 Masks of Fire video slot by Microgaming and Gameburger Studios.
Whether all this is meant to be an ode to these forebears or is plain out copying we don’t know. What we’re sure of is that in this area, this Blueprint Gaming title leaves a lot to be desired – even the graphics aren’t as amazing as those in some other games it’s created before.

Paytable & Special Symbols
As in practically all other slots, the lowest-paying symbols in Chilli Picante Megaways™ are the card suit symbols. These are namely the 10, J, Q, K, and A. The first three pay 0.1x for lining up three of a kind, and 1x-your-stake for lining up six. The K and A, meanwhile, pay 0.2x for three, and 2x for six.
These are then followed by the Mexican Musical Instruments, Piñata, Calavera (skull), and Tequila Bottle symbols, which pay higher amounts, respectively. This ranges from 1x your stake for three musical instruments or piñatas, all the way up to 25x for six tequila bottles.
Then there are the two chilli symbols, namely the Flaming Red Chilli and the Ghost Chilli. These are interchangeable in a winning combination made up of three to six such symbols, but the Ghost Chilli is also used for the Chilli Hot Cashpot.
Meanwhile, there are two special symbols in this game. The Golden Chilli Bonus symbol is the Scatter, and you’ll need to land at least three of these to get your hands on the Free Spins feature. The Mariachi Player Wild, meanwhile, is available only during the free spins and can act both as a multiplier and a way of getting more free spins.
