Megaclusters™ is an innovative slot mechanism that awards you wins through clusters, rather than paylines. Invented by Big Time Gaming, these games are available at many of the best Megaways™ casinos.
Megaclusters™ is a ground-breaking slot mechanic in which wins are awarded through clusters of the same symbols, rather than in paylines.
First unveiled in 2020 to great fanfare with the release of Star Clusters Megaclusters™, this game engine was developed by Big Time Gaming (BTG), which you will probably remember as the creators of the Megaways™ mechanic.
This concept was then followed by other mechanics that have also taken the slot world by storm, including Megaquads™ and Megapays™. Both of the latter are also by BTG, as well as Infinity Reels™ by ReelPlay, and InfiniReels™ by NetEnt.
But let’s take a closer look at how the Megaclusters™ game engine works, shall we?
A Megaclusters™ slot may look confusing when you first open it, but the concept is way simpler than you’d first imagine.
Each Megaclusters™ slot begins with a traditional grid. In some titles, that’s 3×3, in others 3×4, and some have 5×5 grids.
The grid then determines how many symbols can land originally. So, in Star Clusters Megaclusters™, for example, the grid is 4×4, meaning that before you spin the reels, you will have 16 symbols. The same applies for other titles, so if it’s a 5×5 grid, you can expect 25 symbols to begin with, and so on.
Once you spin the reels, you then need to land five identical symbols, or a mix of five identical symbols and Wild symbols, in a cluster (i.e. touching vertically, horizontally, and, in some titles, diagonally, too) to land a win. Be aware, though, that you can have more than one cluster at a time, so you may land two wins in a single spin.
But there’s more! Every time you land a win, all the symbols in a winning cluster will break up into four smaller symbols. So, to stick to the same example, in Star Clusters Megaclusters™, the grid can go from accommodating 16 symbols to accommodating up to 64.
Some titles also have bigger grids accommodating even more symbols during the Free Spins Bonus, which is something we explore below.
Finally, once all potential winning combinations in a single spin are achieved, the grid returns to its original state.
And that’s pretty much it! Now, let's take a look at the many features you can find within these games – it all starts again when you spin the reels.
Now that we’ve looked at the base games in Megaclusters™ slots, it’s time to look at the myriad of bonus features they come with. You’ll be pleased to know, in fact, that they have as many features as many of the titles in our Megaways™ slots list.
Whenever you land a winning combination in the base game, the symbols in that winning combination will be replaced by four other symbols each. If these symbols form part of a winning combination within the same spin, the Cascading Reels feature is triggered, potentially giving you more wins per spin. This feature can sometimes be referred to as Reactions or Avalanches.
Some Megaclusters™ slots also come with Wild symbols. As in traditional slots, these symbols can replace any other symbol in a winning cluster. In some titles, though, the Wild symbol is a roaming one, meaning it’s always on the grid, ready to help out.
Multipliers are another type of Megaclusters™ bonus feature. These work differently in each title that has them: in some, they’re part of the Free Spins, while in others, they are part of the base game.
Finally, we also need to mention the Free Spins Feature, which is available in all four Megaclusters™ slots currently in existence. There is no scatter symbol to trigger these free spins, though. Instead, they are triggered when you manage a set number of reactions in one spin. In Star Clusters Megaclusters™ the set number is five, while in Cyberslot Megaclusters™ the set number is 12.
Although there aren’t many Megaclusters™ Megaways™ slots yet, the ones available to play are fantastic! Let’s look at each one in more detail.
As the first game to operate on the Megaclusters™ game engine, Star Clusters Megaclusters™ by BTG introduced us to many of the mechanic’s features.
The game itself, which has an RTP of 96.54%, is gem-themed and comes with a 3×3 grid, which can accommodate anywhere between 16 and 64 symbols in the base version.
On top of cluster pays and the Cascading Reels feature, this medium-to-high volatility slot comes with a Free Spins bonus feature, which is triggered when you land five or more consecutive wins in the same spin. When this happens, the grid doubles in size to accommodate 64 symbols, each of which can be split into a further four symbols. This means that at its maximum capacity, this grid can hold an incredible 256 symbols.
You can take this game for a spin for anything between £/€/$0.20 and £/€/$20, and has a maximum win of 23,960x your stake.
Kluster Krystals Megaclusters™ is an Aztec-themed, high-volatility slot that was released by Relax Gaming. While this title also pays in clusters, it works differently to Star Clusters.
The first difference here is that the grid is 5×5, meaning that it can hold up to 25 symbols. These symbols, however, are rather special. See, instead of each symbol in a winning combination breaking into four smaller ones, the symbols are broken up into four from the get-go. Then, any symbols next to winning combination have a piece added to them until they reach their full shape. As each new quarter is added, the payouts from that symbol will also be larger.
Over and above that, the game has plenty of bonus features. These include multipliers, free spins, and three mini features, which are triggered after six consecutive avalanches.
Each spin in this game can cost between £/€/$0.10 and £/€/$1,000, making it both one of the best low-stake Megaways™ slots, as well as a fantastic high-roller game. Its RTP is 96.42% and has a max win of 9,921.7x.
Also released by BTG, Diamond Fruit Megaclusters™ is a fruit-themed video slot with medium-to-high volatility, and a grid that will make absolutely no sense at first. This is because although it is a 5×5 grid, not all positions will be filled out, and sometimes the symbols will already be split into four even before they are part of winning combination.
Don’t let this confuse you though, as it works pretty much the same as all other Megaclusters™ Megaways™ slots: you need to match 5 symbols to land a win, large symbols break up into four once they’re part of a winning combination, and Cascading Reels work here, too.
Apart from this, the game has a Wild symbol, and two bonus features. The first is the Wild Cannon, which basically shoots Wilds whenever you land three consecutive wins, while the second is the Free Spins Bonus, which is triggered after eight reactions.
This game can be played for anything between £/€/$0.20 and £/€/$75, has an RTP of 96.25%, and a max win of 6,650x.
Cyberslot Megaclusters™ is another gem-themed video slot by BTG, and it’s fabulous! It starts with a 3×3 grid that holds nine large symbols – although you always have one symbol which has already been split into nine smaller ones.
The game, which has an RTP of 99.36%, also has three different Wild symbols: a regular Wild that can appear randomly, a Roaming Wild that shifts position after every spin, and a Golden Roaming Wild, which appears after the first retrigger and roams until the end of the spin. Of course, there are also Free Spins, which can be triggered after 12 consecutive wins.
You can play this game for anything between £/€/$0.20 and £/€/$20 and win a maximum of 23,960x your stake.

The concept of cluster pays is nothing new, and we’ve had titles like NetEnt’s Aloha! Cluster Pays™ and Yggdrasil’s Gem Rocks for quite a few years now. So what makes Megaclusters™ different?
Well, as you may have noticed, we sometime refer to the mechanic as Megaclusters™ Megaways™, and that is exactly why they’re not the same. Through this BTG mechanic, Megaclusters™ slots can have 64 symbols in the base game, and up to 256 symbols during the Free Spins.
In other words, this is Cluster Pays™ but bigger and better.
Like everything else in life, Megaclusters™ come with both advantages and disadvantages. Here they are at a glance.
Even though there are thousands of video slot titles out there, sometimes it may feel like they’re all similar. But Megaclusters™ slots are completely different in the way they work, in the way they award payouts, and in the way their bonus features work. If you need just one reason to try these, make it the fact that they’re so unique!
Megaclusters™ slots operate on a game engine that pays in clusters rather than paylines, but which also come with larger grids that can expand. The concept was developed by Big Time Gaming.
On top of cluster pays, Megaclusters™ have a number of Megaways™ features, including Expanding Reels, Cascading Reels, Free Spins, Wild Symbols, and Multipliers.
Our list above names our five favourite Megaclusters™ casinos. These are all legal, licensed, and trustworthy, ensuring you have a great experience.
